The speculation, naysaying and waiting is over.
The groundbreaking for River Ranch, a master-planned community near Dayton, was held on Sept. 10. The anticipated commercial investment in the area will follow behind it with retail and industry that has already marked their spot for development.
“It really thrills me to hear these bulldozers behind me knowing that we’ve really started,” said owner and development manager Eddie Gray.
At one of the largest ground-breaking ceremonies in the county’s history with more than 200 people crowded under a large tent to protect them from the sun, Gray and his partner owners proclaimed the beginning of the project. And like a scripted Hollywood movie, bulldozers off in the distance clearing the land created a buzz behind the gathering of officials as a reminder that the project wouldn’t wait for their speeches. The 7,000-acre project, one of the largest in east Harris County, will rival Cinco Ranch on the westside near Katy and is expected to have between 14,000 and 20,000 lots at buildout.
The addition of new homes and luxury apartment homes in the area is welcome news to an area that is destitute with housing inventory.
“This River Ranch development is a veritable milestone for our area and one that’s very needed,” said Dayton mayor Caroline Wadzeck.
The mayor said it was an indicator of the growth about to descend on Dayton.
“Many industries and businesses are coming, and their employees will need someplace to live,” she said.
